So pretty much my entire group of friends were invited to a wedding, but it was for someone I didn’t really know, so I wasn’t feeling left out or anything when I didn’t get an invite. It turned out that my friend, Tricia, was invited and could bring a guest, so she asked me if I could come with her, so of course I agreed!

Tricia and I in the coat check waiting for the speeches to end. There were more coats on the wall next to us, but you can see two behind us.
(Technically, I told her I’d be her guest one night in August and she said sure, but it was one of those things that you never know if it’s actually going to happen – you know what I mean, right?!).
So you can imagine my surprise yesterday afternoon when I received a Facebook message asking if I wanted to go to the wedding that night. I was studying at the library (I’m a giant nerd, I know!), and didn’t have anything planned, so, “Why not go to a wedding?” I asked myself. And so I did.
Tricia was un-invited to the reception because she had a class that weekend and couldn’t confirm she could make the meal, but she wanted to go to the reception because our friends were there. So we snuck in around 8:30 p.m. totally expecting people to be everywhere talking, laughing and having a great time.
It turned out the speeches were still on…and everyone was sitting quietly…staring…and people close to the door were looking at us as we walked in.
I saw the coat check and gave the internationally-recognized head sign for, “Let’s go in there!” (exaggerated head nod to the right). Oh, it was so obvious that we were either very late, or just coming to party, but we stayed. She was invited to the reception part, just uninvited to the dinner, so we weren’t really crashing it.
We were in that coat check, which conveniently had two chairs, for about half an hour. By that point, I had texted my best friend, Ali, to say, “We are literally in the coat check” and she came and joined us!
When the speeches were done, many guests came to get their coats to leave or go outside for a moment…and we were still in there. HA HA
Turns out that the party wouldn’t really get started, so I got dancing with some random uncles and such and got people on the dance floor. I even danced with the bride and some bridesmaids (they have no idea who I am, by the way). I also did my best to get into everyone’s pictures. Quite memorable.
What a spontaneous, fun night! Could you imagine how hilarious those pictures would have been if they could see my braces?? I just smiled confidently in every shot. Gotta love weddings!
