Crowding Causes Wire Poke

Is it really time to go to the orthodontist again?!  I feel like I was just there!

I’m actually heading to see my doctor tomorrow, and it couldn’t be better timing.  I know I need my upper wire changed (he said so last time), but I also want him to take a look at my wire on the lower arch.

I got some chain elastics during my last appointment to close up space, and boy, did it work.  But since I asked for the wire to be cut flush and he used a burr to make it comfortable, when my teeth moved closer together, the wire inevitably became longer than the bracket base and now sticks out.

It doesn’t hurt like it did back in the early days, but I just want him to take a look to make sure it’s okay.

I may ask him to bend the wire the next time I get my wire changed on my lowers.  My upper wire is bent very close to my tooth, so it’s not cut flush, so I’m sure I will find the lower one comfortable.

About Jacqui

I'm the marketer at 3M Canada for Incognito Hidden Braces, and I'm trying to get to know my product better by actually wearing them. I had braces as a kid, but my teeth moved over the years. I'm sharing my progress and experiences honestly to help others decide if Hidden Braces are a good choice for them, too.

Hello! I am wearing an Incognito brace on the upper teeth to make space for an impacted canine to come down. We have the space by the canine is not playing ball, so my orth wants to surgically expose it, fix a bracket and chain and gently pull it down. Seems sensible, but given the brace is behind my teeth surely the canine needs to be exposed, the bracket attached from behind my teeth as well (also more aesthetically acceptable). The current suggestion is to expose it from the front which will look unsightly to say the least. I would appreciate your comments. Can you email me any photos or video of how this would work in practice? Many thanks,Cathy

  2. Thanks for posting these experiences – it really helps others to hear what it’s really like. I’m going to suggest this link on my website of all-things braces-friendly, http://www.MetalMouthMedia.net, and at my Braces Friendly blog. Keep up the good work!
